We all know that darkness is the absence of light. There’s nothing inherently wrong with darkness. Beautiful things arise out of darkness, like the seeds planted in the fertile soil, under the ground, which root and sprout and eventually blossom into luscious vegetation. Like an innocent newborn baby emerging into the world from its mother’s dark, nourishing womb.
But without light, none of this is possible.
Quantum science has discovered that everything is, at its source, made of light waves and particles. Light is what provides sustenance and sustainability for this planet and all of life. And gives us the very ability to see and know ourselves, each other, this world. Like we need food and water to survive and thrive, we need light.
When we find ourselves in a period of inner darkness, we have temporarily lost our ability to see clearly – either our reality, or deeper desires, or both. Then what we naturally seek is light, which restores our ability to see, and then to attend to our lives as we choose to.
‘Light’ can be experienced as literal light, ‘aha’ moments, lightheartedness, clarity of vision, acceptance of reality, and so forth.
So many of us have experienced a ‘dark night of the soul’ which was finally resolved with our return to living in the light of our own souls.
And in the same way, we could say that everything is made of love, at its source. Everything we see in this physical universe, someone cared enough about to create. Love is the experience of connection, and is what opens us to feeling fully alive. Love is a high vibrational state of being from which new possibilities arise and creative expression naturally flows.
When love is absent, it has not been permanently destroyed.
It’s just being suppressed or squeezed off, like how a kink in a garden hose prevents the water from flowing. Things in our own minds or experiences (i.e. – trauma, loss, grief, fear, anger) may prompt us to close ourselves off to the presence and flow of love. Like the sun behind the clouds, love is still there, but we have temporarily lost our connection to its presence within us.
You could say that everything in life, then, is love – or – a call for love. And like unkinking the garden hose to restore the water flow, we can view our disconnection from love as a call for love. Then our work is to distinguish where the kink or conflict is located. As with light, it’s not the ‘Truth’ that love is ever really gone. We have simply lost our connection with our love for self, others, the world, life itself.

Where might you be pinching yourself off from your awareness of the love you already have inside you? Where is life or relationships showing up in your experience as something that is not love? How might you begin to reconnect with the source of love within you, and restore your connection with love itself?
